Very Useful, Go-To Interior Design Diagrams

I would like to share these very helpful design diagrams and look at some in-depth together. If ever you feel stuck or have design questions, these are really good to have handy. I don't think they are ALL great. I recommend researching more in depth the subjects of interest or concern, e.g. color psychology is huge and cannot be summed up in a simple diagram.

For example, it might make sense to hang curtains at window frame height. Although hanging them at ceiling height instantly makes the space seem larger and more open by forcing the eye to look up and around.

Here are my favorites that I think you should pay special attention to:
  • Diagram #14 gives the recommended dimensions for furniture in your house to ensure optimal comfort if you are tight on space and also for overall furniture placement planning. There are actually recommended distances between the couch and coffee table, traffic lanes in a room, etc. to offer comfort and practicality.
  • Diagram #16 offers suggestions on how to decorate a mantel (or console table). Following the "triangle" rule is SO important! I highly suggest you go home and play with your decorative items to create a really visually pleasing focal point that will interest and please the eye.
  • Diagram #20 demonstrates one of my biggest pet peeves because hanging curtains as high as possible and having them go down to the floor instantly makes the space seem larger and more open by forcing the eye to look up and around. The curtains become much more flattering against the wall.
  • Lastly, diagram #28 clearly shows how it's all a trick of the eye! Take a look at these 3 exact same living room furniture placements, with the exception of the rug. Don't the first two living room plans look much larger than the last?!

I will be posting a blog in regards to color psychology very shortly. Color psychology is fun and easy; I look at it as a science.
Hopefully you will share the same enthusiasm!

Cheers!
